The Lady Noles will grab their dancin’ shoes and head to Baton Rouge after being selected to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon. FSU (23-8) enters as a 6 seed in the Spokane 1 bracket and will face 11 seed George Mason (27-5) from the Atlantic 10 conference in round one on Saturday, March 22nd.
Should they advance, FSU will face the winner of 3 seed LSU and 14 seed San Diego State on Monday, March 24th. The matchup winner would face the Raleigh Regional winner featuring Michigan State, Harvard, NC State, and Vermont.
This is the 12th consecutive tournament appearance for the Seminoles and the fourth appearance under current head coach Brooke Wyckoff. The Noles are led by the ACC’s leading scorer, Ta’Niya Latson (24.9 PPG), and defensive standout Makayla Timpson, who ranks first in the conference in blocks/steals and second in rebounds.
FSU has three first-team All-ACC selections, including Latson, Timpson, and O’Mariah Gordon, who have led the Seminoles to another solid season. They had an unfortunate early exit from the ACC tournament, so they will look for redemption in the big dance.

The Noles’ first opponent, George Mason, will be making their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Atlantic 10 conference, defeating St. Joesph’s 73-58 in the title game.
The Patriots are led by redshirt sophomore forward Zahirah Walton, senior guard Paula Suarez, and sophomore guard Kennedy Harris. Walton leads in scoring with an average of 15.1 PPG, Harris is second, averaging 13.9 PPG, and Suarez is third at 11.9 PPG. Suarez, Walton, and Harris are also one, two, and three in assists and steals. Grad senior forward Nalani Kaysia leads the team in rebounds and blocks.
George Mason is 27-5 overall with a 14-4 conference record. They are 1-1 versus teams from the Power 4 Conferences, with a 50-41 win over Wake Forest and a 66-56 loss to current No. 18 Maryland, however, both games occurred early in the season. They enter Saturday’s game on a four-game winning streak.
Florida State had the tougher path to get here with a lopsided strength of schedule ranking compared to George Mason’s. Hopefully, there is no Cinderella story in store for the Patriots against the Noles, and they get the win to move on to the next round, where they will likely have to face a tough LSU squad.
