With spring in books and the portal back open, the flow of players in and out of programs has begun as teams work to address needs and trim their rosters to get under the scholarship limit.
So far this week, Florida State has seen a trio of players enter the portal. Linebackers Brendan Gant and Stephen Dix Jr are joined by defensive tackle Antavious Woody in entering their names into the transfer portal.
While neither were slated to be starters and found themselves further down the depth chart, the loss of Gant and Dix does raise further concerns about the already thin depth at linebacker for FSU.
This may be something the staff is planning to address in the portal. We all know about their successful track record of being able to address the weaknesses on this roster by doing so.
Woody had just recently joined the Seminoles roster but walked into a defensive tackle room loaded with talent so FSU will be fine at that position group.
These are not the first players from FSU to enter the portal joining recent departures Sam McCall, Malik McLain, and Derrick McLendon and likely won’t be the last as they clear roster space and make room for potential additions.
It remains to be seen where Gant, Woody, and Dix will end up, but their decision to enter the transfer portal is a reminder of the fluid nature of college football rosters in the modern era.
As much as it makes you nervous about losing pieces from your roster, it is an exciting twist on the game knowing you can change the trajectory of a team overnight.
Not to mention, The Battle’s End NIL collective has done an excellent job in aiding roster retention at FSU allowing Seminole fans to sleep a little better at night.
We thank them for their time in garnet and gold and wish them the best of luck going forward. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
