Softball Secures Top 5 Seed, Will Host Tallahassee Regional

There are many great traditions associated with FSU athletics from the War Chant in Doak to O’ Canada in Howser. For FSU softball, they have made a tradition of hosting regionals in the postseason. Yesterday the Seminoles were selected as a top 8 national seed and will host its 11th consecutive regional in Tallahassee. FSU is one of only four schools to host a regional in each of the last 11 seasons (FSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, UCLA).

This speaks to the prowess of the program that head coach Lonnie Alameda leads. The Seminoles have earned a top 8 seed for the eighth time under Alameda’s direction with a 20-3 record as a top 8 seed. Florida State Softball enters the tournament with a 46-9 record, 18-3 at home, and ranked #3 in RPI. The Noles have relied on a balanced offensive and defensive attack ranking in the top 10 in multiple statistical categories. Now, it’s time to put toe to rubber and battle it out for a hopeful return to the WCWS in Oklahoma City.

The Tallahassee regional will feature FSU, Robert Morris, USF, and Auburn. FSU will face Robert Morris on Friday at 2:30 pm and be aired on ACCN. USF and Auburn will play at noon on Friday at ESPNU. The tournament will take place from Friday through Sunday. Should the Noles advance to a super regional, they will host the winner of the Lubbock regional which consists of Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Washington, and Brown.

FSU fans will undoubtedly pack the Plex to watch the Noles this coming weekend providing a home-field advantage for the garnet and gold. It’s going to be an exciting weekend in Tallahassee with FSU softball hosting a regional and No. 2 FSU baseball hosting No. 4 UNC on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
