Signing day is in the books, and with that, Florida State put the finishing touches on its 2025 high school recruiting class. While recruiting has been a roller coaster ride during the tumultuous 2024 season and throughout the staff changes, for the first time in years, there weren’t any negative signing day surprises. When looking at the full picture including early signing day, FSU actually had a few nice surprises in a good way and landed some nice pieces.
The Seminoles closed out signing day by adding three more names to the 2025 class; three-star legacy defensive back Antonio Cromartie Jr., three-star center Chavez “Sandman” Thompson, and four-star offensive tackle Chastan Brown.
Overall, FSU finished 19th in the 247 Composite rankings and 20th in On3’s industry rankings while ranking 2nd in the ACC by both services. Of course, that’s not where FSU needs to be if it hopes to get back to competing for championships. However, considering most of the class fell apart during the season and was sitting in the 50s a week before early signing day, the way the staff was able to close is impressive. Hopefully, with the return of success on the field, this is a sign of things to come, and the new staff will be able to land top 10 classes in the future.
As previously mentioned, despite the ranking, FSU added some quality players to its roster. On3 recently performed its final recruiting update for the 2025 class, which saw FSU edge signee, Tyson Lee, earn a fifth star and top 25 ranking. The talented defender from FSU’s backyard in Pace, Florida, was a last-minute flip from Ole Miss in what has been labeled as possibly the “Steal of signing day.” Another late flip by the Noles from UGA, four-star running back Ousmane Kromah, rose 50 spots in On3’s final update to the 58th-ranked recruit in the class.
Perhaps most impressive was fending off the competition to keep defensive tackle Kevin Wynn, another top 100 recruit, in the class. FSU landed four players who rank top 10 at their respective positions (Kevin Wynn, Osumane Kromah, Tyson Lee, and Bruno Reyes). They added talent in the trenches (an area of need) with 10 total signees (4 on offense and 6 on defense) including consensus four-stars LaJesse Harold (DE) and the aforementioned Kevin Wynn (DT), as well as blue-chip offensive lineman Mario Nash Jr.
FSU added incredible size at the receiver position with 6’4 Tae’shaun Gelsey, 6’5 Tariq Mallory, 6’5 TE Chase Loftin, and 6’7 JUCO WR Jordan Scott. The group will also be joined by wide receiver signee Jayvan Boggs, who is one of the most productive high school receivers I’ve ever seen. Boggs was a flip from UCF who had over 30 offers and had previously been committed to Ohio State and Missouri. He would have been UCF’s highest-ranked recruit in the modern recruiting era; however, he chose to follow new OC Gus Malzahn to Tallahassee.
FSU added two top 5 JUCO players in WR Jordan Scott and Edge Tyland Coleman. They were also able to add dual-threat quarterback Kevin Sperry to the class, who is fit for the Malzahn offense.
When you pair that with the top 5 transfer class that FSU brought in, some having multiple years of eligibility remaining, you can see the potential for short-term success while they build for the long-term future. Again, strides still need to be made on the recruiting trail, and we need to see better development at certain positions with the talent they acquire by the new staff.
However, considering FSU is coming off the season they had with a completely rebuilt staff that scrambled to put together a class at the last minute, I think FSU fans have plenty of reason to be happy with the haul that is Tribe 25. Although it is still very early in the process, it is worth noting that FSU currently has the ninth-ranked class (#1 in the ACC) for 2026 per 247. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
