FSU added a dynamic player at the tight end position on Saturday with the commitment of UCF transfer Randy Pittman. The Seminoles have promising young players at the position and just added Markeston Douglas. However, with four tight ends departing the roster and Amaree Williams getting more work at defensive end next year, added depth is needed. However, Pittman does a lot more than add depth.
He may not possess the typical body type you’d expect at the position, but his size and versatility draw comparisons to Jaheim Bell. Pittman comes in at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, and has recorded snaps at tight end, slot, and wide receiver, and as an H-back.
He was productive at UCF and had a solid 2024 season hauling in 32 receptions for 416 yards, and 2 touchdowns. One of his top qualities is being a sure-handed target with a 70.7% career catch percentage and only 2 dropped passes in 2 seasons.
As a blocker, his running blocking grade of 54.9 isn’t the greatest, but his 69.7 pass blocking grade is solid, and he’s not scared to be physical. As with Bell, Pittman isn’t being brought here to be a blocking tight end but he’s capable of getting the job done regardless.
One obvious bonus is that he’s already familiar with Gus Malzahn’s offense coming over from UCF where he had 11 starts and appeared in 25 games over 2 seasons. He will have two years of eligibility remaining. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
