Florida State has landed its first transfer portal commitment of the 2026 cycle as South Alabama cornerback Nehemiah Chandler announces his commitment to the Seminoles. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back is coming off an official visit to FSU, which began Saturday morning.
Chandler played High School football right down the road from Tallahassee at Wakulla in Crawfordville before spending a year at Georgia Tech, where he redshirted in his first collegiate season. He then transferred to South Alabama, where, as a redshirt freshman in 2025, Chandler started 10 games (played in 11), recorded 32 tackles, 13 passes defended, and 2 interceptions.
He finished the year with a solid 77.0 PFF grade, but his run defense grade was 47.5, and his tackling 41.2. Chandler’s 82 coverage grade was the third highest in the Sun Belt Conference, and he also led them in passes defended. However, he did allow 6 touchdowns on 49 targets this past season.
FSU already has one starter at cornerback with Ja’Bril Rawls deciding to return. Chandler has starting experience and some positives to work with. He also has three years of eligibility remaining and some things to clean up. That means there’s an opportunity for him to compete for the other starting spot now or serve as a competitive depth piece while he continues to develop. 247Sports ranks Chandler as the No. 935 overall player and No. 100 cornerback in the transfer portal. Thanks for reading, and Go Noles!
