FSU Lands the Number 2 Player in the Palmetto State!

Dugan does it again! Florida State added another explosive receiver to the mix with the commitment of 4-star Malik Clark from Rock Hill, South Carolina. Clark’s commitment was a bit of a surprise as he had received crystal ball predictions to land with the in-state favorite South Carolina Gamecocks.

However, Clark told the media in post-commitment interviews that his top schools (UofSC, UNC, and FSU) were all great schools with great coaches, but it was the ability to compete for championships that swayed his commitment to the Seminoles.

FSU is getting a top-tier playmaker with size, speed, and a track and field background. Clark comes in at 6-foot-2.5, 183 pounds, and has been officially clocked at sub-4.4 speed in the forty. He is the 221st-ranked player nationally, 26th ranked receiver, and the number 2 player in South Carolina. In 2023, Clark caught 46 passes for 800 yards and 9 touchdowns, which led to him being selected as an All-Herald second-team selection.

Perimeter playmaker with the speed to find the end zone. Not the most complete product at this stage, but has the clay to emerge as a true difference-maker on Saturdays with his long limbs and top gear. Measured just over 6-foot-2, 180 pounds in advance of senior season and posted some of the top testing numbers on the entire Under Armour Next camp circuit: 4.39 in the 40-yard dash to go along with a 4.31 effort in the short shuttle and a 122.5-inch broad jump.

At his best when he’s attacking the deeper parts of the field as he streaks down the sideline and keeps defenders on their heels. Will create separation with dynamic cuts, but could get a little more efficient with his footwork. Quick to locate the football once it’s airborne, gearing down or up to secure the prize. However, doesn’t have a ton of contested catches on the highlight reel. Additional mass could not only make him more effective in 50-50 situations but also help him as a blocker.

Overall, should be viewed as a potential multi-year impact player at the Power Four level with legitimate NFL upside. Will likely need some time to find his bearings, but one of the best in the 2025 cycle when it comes to challenge coverages at both the second and third levels. (Andrew Ivans – 247 Sports)

Palmetto State Pipeline

Let me give you all a little side story that most other outlets aren’t familiar with, which I know from being based out of the same town that Clark hails from. We typically don’t think of South Carolina as a talent-rich state being FSU is based in the most talent-rich state in the country. However, Rock Hill is known as “Football City, USA” because of the talent it produces.

The three high schools in the area have produced over 40 players that had made it to NFL rosters! Southern Living magazine stated that Rock Hill has produced the most NFL players per capita of any city in America. I can assure you they take high school football very seriously here. I’m hoping to get to one of Clark’s games this season to get an eyewitness account of his skill set.

Tribe 25 & Wrap up

With the addition of Malik Clark to the 2025 class, Tribe 25 now sits at 17th nationally and 3rd in the ACC according to the 247 composite rankings. The Noles sit even higher in On3’s industry ranking at 7th nationally and 2nd in the ACC behind Clemson who has two additional commitments. The Seminoles class is loaded with talent and currently has the 6th highest average player rating only trailing programs like LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia.

Clark joins the Noles’ other blue-chip receivers CJ Wiley and Daylan McCutcheon to give the Noles loaded QB room some talented targets to throw to. Florida State is far from done on the recruiting trail, especially with the highly anticipated Seminole Showcase coming up, but this is another big win on the recruiting trail for FSU. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
