Florida State added what could be the most underrated commit of the 2026 cycle in Iowa Western transfer quarterback Malachi Marshall. Most people stop after hearing the word JUCO, but Marshall is the cream of the crop from that level. Let’s start by naming some of his accolades from last season.
Marshall began his career at Stony Brook (FCS) before transferring to Iowa Western. At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Marshall could stand to add some weight for durability at the Power 4 level, but watching his film shows why the staff wanted him. Marshall can sling it plain and simple. He is an accurate passer who can stretch the field vertically and fit the ball into tight windows even when on the move.
He is not a big runner but is certainly mobile enough to move the pocket and evade pressure. Marshall said that he basically runs the same offense as Gus Malzahn at Iowa Western, so he sees himself as a seamless fit into what FSU wants to do with him. Unfortunately, he won’t be on campus until summer; however, familiarity with the offense should mean less of a learning curve, and Marshall said he will be ready when he arrives in Tallahassee.
The positive news is that he has three years to play two. While I expect him to be in the mix for the QB1 spot in 2026, if nothing else, he can develop over the year and push for the starting job in 2027. Malachi Marshall adds a spark to the room that needed it. Not to mention, it is always nice to add someone who knows how to win. It may have been at the JUCO level, but Marshall led his squad to a national title. I’m excited to see where the Rock Hill, South Carolina, natives’ journey takes him. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
