Florida State made a promising addition to the linebacker room on Friday with the commitment of UNC transfer Caleb Lavallee. The 6-foot-1, 225 redshirt sophomore only made one start during his two seasons in Chapel Hill, but he used it to flash his tremendous potential. Lavallee started in UNC’s bowl game against UConn and led the team in tackles (9) and added a TFL and PBU earning him a solid 78.5 PFF grade.
Although he only had one start, he did appear in all 13 games this season and played 127 snaps in two years. He also blocked a punt in the Tar Heels matchup against James Madison. He is a high-upside athletic linebacker that is expected to play either the Mike or Will position in Tony White’s defense. There is a strong chance that Lavallee could be a contributor this season with two season of development under his belt and the bowl performance to show his capabilities. However, with three years of eligibility remaining, he will also be a building block of the future at the position.
Lavallee may have only been a three-star recruit out of high school (per 247), but he was a highly decorated prospect. The two-time team captain earned first-team all-state, region and Cobb County honors. Was the regions defensive player of the year. Led the state of Georgia in tackles per game with 15.6. Lavallee was insanely productive racking up 425 tackles, 18 sacks, 57 TFL, 4 INTs, and 3 forced fumbles over his three-year high school career. He was also a talented baseball player earning all-state and all-region honors as a catcher. He joins veteran linebacker transfer Stefon Thompson. Florida State is now up to 13 transfers in the 2025 cycle and is ranked 7th (1st in ACC) in the 247 Transfer Portal Rankings. Thanks, and Go Noles!
