FSU Lands 2026 Five-Star Defensive back Chauncey Kennon

Florida State has landed a monumental commitment for its 2026 recruiting class, as five-star defensive back Chauncey Kennon announced his pledge to the Seminoles on Sunday. The Sarasota (Fla.) Booker product chose FSU over a host of national contenders, including Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Miami, marking a significant win for Head Coach Mike Norvell and his staff.

Kennon, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback, is widely regarded as one of the top defensive prospects in the 2026 cycle. Ranked as the No. 2 cornerback nationally and a top 30 overall player by 247 Sports, his commitment immediately elevates him to the crown jewel of Florida State’s already impressive 2026 class.

“It felt like home,” Kennon stated in his announcement, echoing a sentiment of the family atmosphere often mentioned by recruits who choose the Seminoles. The long-standing relationship between Kennon and the FSU coaching staff, particularly defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain and Coach Norvell, played a crucial role in his decision. FSU was among the first schools to offer Kennon a scholarship in early 2024.

Kennon’s versatility is a key asset. He starred on both sides of the ball for Booker High School as a junior, showcasing his athleticism and playmaking ability. Despite missing some time due to an injury, he still recorded 33 tackles, 16 pass breakups, and an interception on defense, along with 10 catches for 317 yards and 6 touchdowns on offense.

His scouting report highlights his lengthy frame, fluid hips, and ability to mirror receivers, making him an ideal fit for a variety of defensive schemes. Athletically, his 4.5 40-yard dash, 6-foot-2 high jump, and ability to play both ways demonstrate his developmental upside. Scouts project Kennon to be a major impact player after he continues to fill out his frame and refine his technique. His physicality and willingness to engage are also noted as strengths.

Kennon’s commitment continues a strong summer for Florida State on the recruiting trail. He becomes the highest-ranked recruit in their 2026 class to date, further solidifying a group that aims to compete for a top 10 national ranking. The Seminoles currently hold 22 verbal commitments for the 2026 cycle and rank 11th in the 247 Composite rankings.

Landing Kennon on signing day would be significant for Mike Norvell. 2026 will be his seventh class at FSU, and they have only managed to sign two five-star recruits during that time (Hykeem Williams – five-star via 247, Luke Kromenhoek – five-star via On3). He would be part of what is shaping up to be a pivotal class for FSU with 15 blue-chip recruits. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
