FSU Lands 2027 Blue-Chip Running Back Jayden Miles

Kam Martin lands his first commitment at FSU in 2027 four-star running back Jayden Miles.

FSU has received a commitment from 2027 four-star running back Jayden Miles out of Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect chose the Noles over Ohio State after official visits to both campuses, capping a recruitment that also included major interest from LSU, Auburn, Kentucky, and Texas Tech. According to the 247Sports Composite, Miles checks in as the No. 388 prospect nationally, the No. 30 running back in the class, and the No. 15 recruit in Louisiana. It’s a blue-chip commitment, and it’s the first of Kam Martin’s tenure at Florida State.

Miles is the real deal physically. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he already has the size that most college programs spend years developing. That’s a guy who can step on campus and compete for carries immediately. His junior season at Baton Rouge Catholic was a breakout, topping 1,000 yards on the ground and earning all-state honors. In 2024, he set the school record with seven touchdowns in a single game, which tells you something about the kind of playmaker he is when things open up.

The film shows a downhill runner who can also threaten you in space. He’s got the contact balance you want in a ball carrier at this level, and his receiving chops are good enough that he projects as a genuine three-down back. That versatility is a big part of why FSU went hard for him, and it’s apparently a big part of why he chose FSU.

Miles cited the ability to play a versatile role in this offense as a key factor in his decision, and Ousmane Kromah’s freshman emergence served as a blueprint. Kromah had a strong freshman season, rushing for 408 yards on 5.7 yards per carry while adding nine catches for 147 yards and a touchdown. He proved FSU would put a young back on the field and actually use him. Miles saw that and believed he could do the same.

The relationships matter too. FSU was his very first offer back in May of 2024, and that loyalty wasn’t lost on him. When a staff comes at you early and keeps that energy consistently, even through the rough stretch the program has had the last couple of years, it matters. Miles acknowledged the staff’s belief in FSU’s trajectory was a key factor, and he seems to genuinely buy in on the rebuild under Mike Norvell.

A strong opening statement for Kam Martin

Martin joined FSU after stints at Tulsa, UCF, Incarnate Word, and Texas State, and he has coached a 1,000-yard rusher every single year he’s been a position coach. At UCF, he developed RJ Harvey, who was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, into a back-to-back Doak Walker Award semifinalist.

Landing Miles as his first commitment at FSU is a statement. Four-star backs from Louisiana who hold offers from Ohio State and LSU don’t end up in Tallahassee by accident. It takes trust, genuine relationship building, and a sales pitch that holds water. Martin delivered all three. For the Noles, this is exactly the kind of recruiting win that builds momentum heading into the summer. The 2027 class needs blue-chip pillars, and Miles is one.
