In a significant recruiting win, Florida State has landed a commitment from four-star wide receiver Jasen Lopez, a standout two-sport athlete from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida. The Seminoles beat out rivals Miami and Florida and other top contenders Georgia and West Virginia to secure Lopez’s pledge for the 2026 recruiting class.
A dynamic playmaker on both the football field and basketball court, Lopez is expected to make an impact in both sports in Tallahassee. Standing at 6’0” and weighing 185 pounds, Lopez is ranked as the No. 252 overall prospect, No. 43 wide receiver, and No. 39 recruit in Florida according to 247Sports.
His junior season at Chaminade-Madonna was nothing short of spectacular, with 87 receptions for 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 14.9 yards per catch. He also rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns on six carries and returned a punt for a score. Lopez’s explosive season included four games with over 100 receiving yards, highlighted by an 11-catch, 256-yard game against American Heritage. The previous season at True North Academy, Lopez had a 1,200-yard season with 16 touchdowns on 73 receptions as a sophomore.
What makes Lopez such an interesting prospect is his prowess as a dual-sport athlete. A four-star basketball prospect ranked No. 122 nationally and No. 12 among point guards by 247Sports, Lopez averaged 25 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45% from the field and 34% from three-point range. He’s averaged over 21 points per game the past two years.
There’s a lot to like about Lopez, who is a smooth-moving, twitchy athlete with the ability to high point the ball on contested catches given his basketball background. He plays hard and has been insanely productive in one of Florida’s best football regions.
His commitment to Florida State includes plans to play both football and basketball. Head football coach Mike Norvell and basketball coach Luke Loucks emphasized FSU’s history of supporting multi-sport athletes, a factor that resonated with Lopez during his official visit in June. The recruitment battle for Lopez was a nice win over in-state rival Miami, who was considered the frontrunner after hosting his final official visit on June 20-22. However, Florida State’s efforts, led by wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. won out the talented dual-sport athlete.
Lopez’s official visit to Tallahassee was a turning point, as the Seminoles showcased their facilities, academic support, and vision for his role in their offense. “It is something they brought up. They said how they actually have people who do it and are not just talking to talk,” Lopez said, referencing FSU’s track record with dual-sport athletes. The personal attention from Norvell and Harris, who maintained frequent contact, helped seal the deal.
Lopez’s commitment bolsters an already impressive 2026 recruiting class for Florida State, which now ranks No. 8 nationally per the 247Sports Composite rankings with 20 commitments. He joins a talented group of wide receivers, including four-star prospects Devin Carter, Efrem White, Brandon Bennett, and Darryon Williams, strengthening FSU’s offensive outlook.
For Lopez, the decision to choose Florida State was about more than just football. The opportunity to pursue both sports at a high level, combined with FSU’s strong recruiting pitch, made Tallahassee the perfect fit. “305 —> Tally, let’s climb🍢,” Lopez posted on social media in his commitment announcement. He should be a fun player to watch develop on the grass and the hardwood throughout his career in garnet and gold. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
