Mike Norvell met with media members after Wednesday’s practice session and shared the unfortunate news that redshirt senior linebacker DJ Lundy will miss the remainder of the season with an injury. Lundy, who has been one of the leaders on this defense, did not play in last week’s game vs. Clemson either. This is a big blow for the Noles defense as Lundy was by far FSU’s most experienced player at the position with 1,680 snaps throughout his 5-year career in Tallahassee. However, it hasn’t been a stellar year so far for the veteran as he is currently FSU’s lowest-graded linebacker at 54.1, per PFF. It is unclear if he will be able to qualify for a medical redshirt to be able to return for another season.
Lundy is the third veteran Seminole who will miss the remainder of the season due to injury. He joins OG Richie Leonard IV and QB DJ Uiagalelei (believed to be season-ending). The loss is unfortunate due to FSU not having much depth at the position, but it will create opportunities for other players who must step up in Lundy’s absence. Omar Graham Jr. started in his place vs. Clemson alongside Blake Nichelson. Justin Crier has stepped up as a young player with promise, and DeMarco Ward has appeared in three games this season. Cam Riley is now the most veteran player at the position and will likely take on a larger role. It’s been a tough season for FSU, and this certainly doesn’t help, but they must adapt and overcome. We want to wish DJ a speedy recovery and hope he can qualify for a medical redshirt. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
