It was all smiles and no drama this time as Florida State landed a commitment from 5-star cornerback Charles Lester III. The 6-foot-1 171-pound defense back from Venice, FL chose the Seminoles over Georgia, Alabama, and a late push from Deion Sanders and Colorado.
Lester is the 19th-ranked prospect nationally and the number 2 cornerback in the 2024 class. On3 Sports shared that Lester silently committed to FSU in June, but tonight it was made official. Charles has been quoted that the family atmosphere, close relationship with the staff, and Mike Norvell’s consistent and infectious personality are what drew him in.
He is also looking forward to working with FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr who has been a successful defensive back at the highest level himself.
The recent success on the field hasn’t gone unnoticed by Lester and he sees the turnaround happening at FSU. He also knows that he can be a part of a special class that can lead FSU back to winning championships. Lester is no stranger to being a Seminole, not only is FSU his dream school, but he has also played on teams named after the Noles since pop-warner.
On the field, Lester is a lengthy and athletic player with good size who has proven himself against other Power 5 recruits at various camps. He has played both ways in high school including as a wildcat quarterback and wide receiver. During his junior season he racked up 5 interceptions and hauled in 34 passes for 354 yards and 4 touchdowns on offense.
This was a huge get for Mike Norvell and FSU, not only by landing a talented player but also for the optics of not losing another 5-star DB to Deon. With Lester’s commitment, Florida State moves up to 8th in the 247 composite class rankings for 2024.
