The Seminoles got a much-needed Sunday morning recruiting boost, and it came from right inside SEC territory. Four-star linebacker Jernard Albright has flipped his commitment from South Carolina to Florida State, giving the Noles their eighth pledge in the 2027 class and their second at a position that the program has struggled to recruit in recent years.
Albright, a 6-foot-2, 205-pounder out of Effingham County (Springfield, GA), checks in as the No. 169 overall prospect, the No. 12 safety, and the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia per the 247Sports Composite. While 247’s individual ranking has him as a three-star, both the composite and Rivals list him as a four-star, and he is firmly inside the top 200 nationally. He will spend his senior season at prep powerhouse St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
(One note on the rankings, the composite still has him listed as a safety, but FSU is recruiting him to play linebacker and projects him as a Will.)
This one must sting for Shane Beamer. Albright told Noles247 that “FSU is most definitely ten steps ahead of South Carolina,” and per multiple reports he is likely to cancel any remaining visits. That kind of clarity coming right off an official visit is exactly what you want to hear from a flip.
His OV was hosted by Chris Jones and Omar Graham Jr., and from everything we’ve read, the family atmosphere and culture in Tallahassee were the closing argument. Linebackers coach Ernie Sims, recently promoted to oversee the position, led the recruitment from the start.

As a junior, he posted 50 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 3 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), plus a few rushing scores on offense. He plays with real physicality at the second level, triggers downhill in a hurry, and arrives at the catch point with the kind of jolt you want from a Will linebacker. The scouting evaluations note he could improve in deep-range coverage, which is part of why the projection makes more sense at LB than safety long-term.
For me, the bigger story here is Ernie Sims. Linebacker has been one of the weakest pipelines on the roster in recent years. If Albright signs, Sims would have back-to-back blue-chip commitments at the position in Izayia Williams and now Albright. That is two in two cycles for a coach who hasn’t had a ton of on-field success to sell. If he keeps producing wins like this, Mike Norvell may have stumbled into one of the most important position-coach upgrades on the staff.
Make no mistake, this is a significant pull. Beating an SEC program on a flip, for a top-200 kid out of Georgia, with the product still being rebuilt, is the kind of win FSU needs more of in the 2027 cycle. Thanks for reading, and Go Noles!
