Florida State has prioritized adding size at the receiver position this offseason. They continued that trend by adding another massive target in 6-foot-6, 220-pound USC transfer wide receiver Duce Robinson. The former 5-star was the number 1 ranked tight end in the 2023 class and spent two seasons in Southern California where he switched to wide receiver. Duce posted 39 receptions for 747 yards and 7 touchdowns in two seasons. He has an impressive average of 19.6 yards per catch throughout his career.
Robinson’s size also allows him to be a solid perimeter blocker, a point of emphasis in Florida State’s new offense under Gus Malzahn. The new OC also mentioned a desire to stretch the field vertically and Robinson would provide a big target downfield that can go up and get the football. FSU has had success with size at the position and Duce could be next in line.
If I had to name a concern it would be his 50% catch percentage in 2024. It was better at 64% in 2023 and the drop-off could be attributed to quarterback play going from Caleb Williams to Miller Moss and Jayden Maiava. One positive is despite the catch rate going down, his drop rate also decreased significantly from 15.8% to 4.2%. He also saw an increase in his Pro Football Focus grade from an already solid 66.5 to an impressive 74.3.
Son of former Seminole Dominique Robinson, the legacy recruit arrived for his visit accompanied by FSU’s new quarterback Thomas Castellanos who is already putting on his recruiting hat. The two have reportedly spoken extensively throughout his recruitment. He has also taken visits to Arizona State and UCLA since entering the portal and is ranked a top 5 transfer per 247 Sports.
Robinson is also a talented baseball player and the opportunity to play for Link Jarrett may have helped sway his decision if he chooses to play both sports at FSU. Robinson was a top 30 outfielder nationally and the number one player in Arizona. He is only the third-ever athlete to be named an “Under Armour All-American” in both football and baseball joining Kyler Murray and AJ Brown. Duce appeared in 4 games with 2 starts for the Trojans baseball team in 2024.
Robinson would end his visit by choosing the Seminoles and becoming FSU’s ninth transfer commitment this offseason. He will have 2 years of eligibility remaining. Thanks for reading and Go Noles!
